Brian Roberts: STILL Not a Cub

Brian Roberts is still NOT a Chicago Cub

Sorry Delusional Cubs Fans, but your favorite Cubs winter trade rumor for the last two seasons has still not come true.

BRIAN ROBERTS IS STILL NOT A CUB.

But wait, it gets worse…. Brian Roberts signed a 4-year contract extention with the Baltimore Orioles.

Can’t say I can blame him for locking in the big guaranteed dollars right now while he can, considering how slow the free agent market was this year for many quality all star players used to bigger and bigger contracts.

But really, you signed a contract extension with the Orioles?  Instead of hitting the market after the 2009 season so that you could sign with the Cubs?  Instead of just waiting out the first few months until the trade deadline so you could get dealt to the Cubs and then sign an extension with them?  We gave Milton Bradley 30 Million, don’t you think we would have shown you the love?

Are you really the kind of player who shows loyalty to his team?  Shows loyalty to his team after years of losing seasons?

Wow, you would have really fit in here in Chicago.

But hey, that’s cool.  We totally respect that.   We would just like you to know, that “some people” don’t feel that Andy McPhail is quite the genius he may have led you to believe he is.

Good luck Brian.  We here in Chicago sympathize with you and the fans of the Baltimore Orioles.  We also would like to thank you for giving Rich Hill a chance and we totally owe you for that one time you accepted Corey Patterson in a trade.  One time you even let us pay you 9 million to take Sammy Sosa.

Oh well.  It will still take a few months for some ignorant fans on the Cubs forums to realize that you’ve resigned to the Orioles, so we’ll be hearing this trade rumor for a bit longer.  We can all but declare this trade rumor false though.  It was nice to think what may have been.

But luckily there will be others.  Other rumors.

I’m thinking of you Jake Peavy.
