Greg Maddux Joins the Chicago Cubs Front Office
On January 11, 2010 the Chicago Cubs named former Cubs pitcher and future hall of famer Greg Maddux as an assistant to General Manager Jim Hendry.
Greg Maddux is returning to the Chicago Cubs!
This is great news for Cubs fans because Greg Maddux is well known to have one of the best baseball minds around and has been a great teacher and mentor throughout his career. Having Maddux on your team, on your bench, in your locker room, in the front office, any way you can get him in your organization; Greg Maddux makes your team better.
“We are thrilled to have Greg back with the Chicago Cubs,” said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. “He has such a vast knowledge of all phases of the game and the ultimate respect of everyone from the players to the front office. The addition of Greg Maddux makes us a better organization.” That’s right!
Greg Maddux’ new responsibilities for the Chicago Cubs organization will include assisting the coaching staffs in spring training at both the major and minor league level, assisting in the development of Cubs minor leaguers during the regular season, mentoring rookie pitchers at the major league level and assisting Jim Hendry in talent evaluation.
This is great! The hiring came as a bit of a surprise as it wasn’t widely know that Greg Maddux was actively looking for a post playing career baseball job. But it appears Maddux is ready to come back to baseball. He’ll be great to have coaching the Chicago Cubs young pitchers at every level and evaluating the Cubs pitching talent. I love the idea of Jim Hendry getting advice from Maddux!
