Ryne Sandberg to Manage Iowa Cubs
Chicago Cubs legend and Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg has been named to manage the AAA affiliate Iowa Cubs for the 2010 season.
This will be Sandberg’s fourth season of managing in the minor leagues for the Chicago Cubs. Sandberg was manager of the Peoria Chiefs in 2007 and 2008, and manager of the AA Tennessee Smokies in 2009. 2010 will bring him to Des Moines for the first time and even closer to a major league job.

Ryne Sandberg continues to get closer to his goal of managing in the major leagues. As we all know, Sandberg has said that it’s his dream is to manage the Chicago Cubs. I know there’s a lot of fans that would love to see that happen too. We all love Ryno already; now we respect the fact that he’s putting in his time and trying to earn that opportunity to be manager of the Cubs.

Sandberg of course know that being one step below the major league level will fuel hopes that he will be the next manager of the Chicago Cubs after Lou Pinella, who is only signed through the 2010 season.
Things have kind of worked their way out where I’ve been able to move up the ladder in three years and now be at Triple-A. I just know that I have a job to do. I want to focus on what I have to do here and do a nice job and then see what happens.” – Ryne Sandberg
Ryne Sandberg is now within grasp of a major league job. I would love to see Ryno in charge of the Chicago Cubs major league clubs. Sandberg is a first class player who always worked hard, performed at the top level, led by example and was well liked by teammates. With Ryno leading the team from the dugout and now Greg Maddux mentoring the pitchers, the Cubs will be headed for success.
