Good old Slammin’ Sammy Sosa has found himself back in the news again. This time it’s all because a recent photo of the former Chicago Cubs right fielder has become an internet sensation.
The widely circulated photo shows Sammy Sosa and his wife at an awards show in Las Vegas on November 5th. Sammy’s skin color in the photo appears to be much lighter than then what you may remember from when he used to play at Wrigley.

This photo of Sammy Sosa and his wife was one of the top searched photos on Google for five days straight. Apparently more than just people in Chicago wanted to see what the buzz was about. Even my mom asked me if I had seen the photo, so if she saw about it than it had to be everywhere.
So what’s the big deal about this photo? What is it that makes so many people want to see it when they hear about it?
Rebecca Polihronis, a former Cubs employee and friend of Sammy Sosa was quoted by the Chicago Tribune about the shot:
“He’s not trying to be Michael Jackson. He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin. Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. The picture is deceiving. He said, ‘If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.’ He can’t believe it is such a big deal.“
He can’t believe it, but neither does anyones else who’s seen the photo in question. They ususally express surprise. So is this a big deal or is this just because it’s November and there’s no other Cubs baseball to talk about?
