Tom Ricketts Seltected as Winning Bidder for the Chicago Cubs

After over a year of speculation, rumors, and delays, the Tribune Company, owners of the Chicago Cubs since 1981, have chosen a buyer to sell the franchise to.
The winning bidder is Thomas Ricketts.
Who is Tom Ricketts you may ask? He’s certainly kept a low profile during the bidding process unlike outgoing San Antionio Spurs owner Marc Cuban, who was an early fan favorite to become owner. But Tom Ricketts was serious about his bid from the start; he assembled a team of lawyers and advisers to help make it happen and ultimately put in the largest bid: $900 Million.
Tom Ricketts is the CEO of Chicago investment bank InCapital LLC, a company he built himself from the ground up. He came from the Ricketts family of Omaha, the founders of Ameritrade.
Now lets have Tom describe himself in his own words:
“My family and I are Cubs fans”. “We share the goal of Cubs fans everywhere to win a World Series and build the consistent championship tradition that the fans deserve.”
How can you not like the sound of that?
Not only that, but he’s got Delusional Cubs Fan credentials:
- He lived in Wrigleyville during college
- He lived in Wrigleyville above a BAR
- He’s been to hundreds of Cubs games as a fan
- He can recite stats on the Cubs greatest players.
- He met his WIFE at a Cubs game!
Isn’t this the type of person you want owning the Cubs. No more faceless corporation reporting to shareholders, but a real person, an owner, a fan, a single person who cares how the team performs on the field and no just financially. He’s one of us!
I’m feeling good about this. Delusional Cubs Fan, rejoice!
THIS IS THE YEAR!
